Kazakhstan and Italy, a long term profitable cooperation

News of Astana Open Dialogue
Ahead of the visit to Kazakhstan by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and the upcoming “Central Asia – Italy” Summit with the participation of the region’s Heads of State, Astana Open Dialogue presents an article by Fabio Indeo and Domenico Palmieri — representatives of the Italian think tank Istituto Italiano per l’Asia (ISIA).

The article offers an in-depth analysis of cooperation between Italy and Kazakhstan in the fields of energy, trade, and the economy.

The authors are Domenico Palmieri, Secretary General of ISIA and an expert in geopolitics and international relations, and Fabio Indeo, an ISIA analyst, PhD in Geopolitics, and visiting researcher at the University of Siena.

The publication explores the strategic partnership between Kazakhstan and Italy, founded on mutually beneficial energy cooperation, trade, and investment. It highlights key areas of collaboration in the oil and gas sector, green energy projects, the growing volume of bilateral trade, and emerging avenues for cooperation — including the supply of critical minerals and participation in infrastructure initiatives. A detailed summary is available in the accompanying carousel.

The article is available in English, Kazakh, and Russian on the website aod.kz.
